Broker Ashek

The crew's Syndicate contact. Smooth, professional, and currently walking a very thin line.

Description

Mid-40s, impeccably dressed in the way that only someone who used to be poor would bother. Speaks quietly. Always has a drink in hand. Meets the crew at the Mirror Maze on Warren or, when things are tense, in the back of his private shuttle docked at SB-176.

Personality

Ashek is genuinely good at his job and genuinely likes people who are good at theirs. He has worked with the crew long enough to respect them. He is also an employee of the Cobalt Syndicate, and Director Maron pays his bills. When those two things come into conflict — which they will in Act 2 — Ashek becomes one of the most interesting characters in the campaign.

Agenda

Keep the money flowing. Keep the crew alive. Keep Maron happy. In that order, until Act 2 when the order becomes impossible to maintain.

The Betrayal Question

Mid-Act 2, Maron orders Ashek to set the crew up. Ashek finds out. What he does next depends on how the crew has treated him — and how the GM reads the relationship. This is not a scripted moment. Let it breathe.

Roleplaying Notes

  • Never raises his voice.

  • Calls everyone by first name even if he's never met them.

  • Will absolutely warn the crew if he decides to. Will absolutely not if they've burned him.

  • Knows where bodies are buried throughout Warren and Sonhandra. This information is available — for a price.

Connections

  • Reports to Director Maron (never met the crew)

  • Works alongside The Starfall (rival crew, appeared in Break the Dock)

  • Has a cautious professional relationship with Abra Drake on Sonhandra
